I. Look at this drawing of a school in the 50s, say what these pupils were allowed or weren't allowed to do and give your opinion; Use the word box. Regarde ce dessin d'une école dans les années 50, dis ce que ces élèves avaient le droit et n'avaient pas le droit de faire et donne ton opinion. 

example : They weren't allowed to express their opinion, I think it was quite strict !

1.They weren't allowed to wear what they liked, it was not fun.

2.They were allowed to ask questions, the same as now.

3.They were allowed to play marbles, the same as now.

4.They weren't allowed to read in the dormitaries, it was quite strict.

5.They weren't allowed to chat in the canteen, it was really horrible.

6.They weren't allowed to talk in the dormitories, it wasn't fun !

II. Think !

Pour exprimer la permission au passé, on emploie :                                                                                              was/ were allowed to + base verbale

Pour exprimer l’interdiction au passé (l’absence de permission), on emploie :                                            wasn’t/weren’t allowed to + base verbale

III.  What about you ? What were you allowed to do when you were 11 ? Use this vocabulary

 Watch horror films- use a computer- stay up late- watch TV up to 10 p.m – go to the cinema

1. I wasn't allowed to watch horror films.
2. I was allowed to use a computer.
3. I wasn't allowed to stay up late.
4. I wasn't allowed to watch TV up to 10 p.m
5. I wasn't allowed to go to the cinema alone.
